Organisations in union, take credit for new initiative

Thursday, 14th November 2024

Darlington Credit Union has answered a call to action from Richmondshire District Council, Colburn Community Support and the former Mayor of Richmond, Ann Brewer, who sadly is no longer here to see her wishes come true. It was great to share all that had been achieved with our local MP Rishi Sunak recently.

Following the official launch of the new service hub in Catterick library, the credit union is now helping serve the community face-to-face with their range of support from savings, loans, and more.

“It has taken a while to get off the ground” said Jo Price, Chief Executive of Darlington Credit Union, “but we are now pleased to be open every Thursday, 10am to 1pm.”

Michael Cotton, Lead Trustee for Catterick Library said, “It’s good to have another great service based at Catterick library for our customers and the wider community to benefit from.”

Rishi also met Debbie Marwood, one of the most recent credit union customers who had set up an account on behalf of Colburn Community Primary School PTFA. “We have found it so difficult to open a bank account for fundraising events, so this option makes it easier for all those involved with the PTFA.”

Following his visit to the library, Rishi also met Simon and Jo-Ann Eastwood who are Community Enhancers with Colburn Community Support.

As Rishi helped to load the community vehicle, Simon and Jo-Ann explained that “The van is used to collect surplus food from various places around the district, with Aldi donating food to the Colburn Hub & Foodshare Project every day via the Neighbourly scheme.”

Having read the annual review from Colburn Community Support, Rishi was encouraged by all that was being achieved in partnership with other like-minded organisations.
